homecoming

1975: a

bicentennial

salute

42

Homecoming '75 began with a parade through
downtown Fairmont. All organizations who sponsored a
queen candidate entered a unit in the parade. A thuse
in midcity parking lot was held immediately after the
parade. The highlight of the homecoming activities was
the 34-6 win over Glenville. A new method of selecting
the homecoming queen was used this year. All queen
candidates selected a wrapped rose during the half-
time show of the game. The holder of the white rose,
Patty DeAngelo, was crowned queen. Knuckle
performed at the Homecoming Ball.

president wendell g. hardway

184

The rapidly expanding student population of Fairmont

State College has brought with it many problems for the

administration. President Wendell G. Hardway has

nevertheless created for Fairmont State an outstanding

image. The character of Dr. Wendell Hardway is one of

perseverance and stability. He is deeply concerned with

the students at Fairmont State College and with the

quality of the academic standards.

It has been at the same time both a good and a bad year.
There were a few happy times, and then there were those times
that every editor goes through. But the book is finished.
For this year, at least.

Our staff was not a large one, by any means, and that
made things rather difficult. But we did what we could and
we don't apologize for our efforts to produce this publication.
This book is mostly a compromise between what we wanted
and what we had to work with.

You will have to decide for yourself what you think of
the 1 976 Mound; we cannot decide for you. I will admit my
bias, as I am sure the other staff members will, but that
doesn't necessarily mean towards. If given the chance, I'm
sure that there are many things we would change.

And yes, Mom and Dad, I can get back to school and back
to "important" work. The fun and games are over. They're
all over now. It's over. Thank God and thank J. E. Short,
Krista Anderson and Randy O'Field.
